questions and answers

  What is Pelo-therapy?

Pelo means mineral clay, so Pelotherapy is mineral clay therapy. We use pelotherapy in quite a few of our body treatments, being our Clay Wraps, Rebalancing Rejuvenation Treatment, ClaySsage ritual, Spa body packages and Cellulite treatments.

What is the difference with EarthSentials clays and other clays?

EarthSentials prides itself in providing the highest quality macro and micro mineral clay for use in our treatments.  Macro and Micro minerals are crucial elements to maintaining a healthy body, so we are working with correcting the body to bring about the most effective and long lasting results.  We believe in our clays and that they are the finest available, even to the point that we and many of our clients take our clays internally with water as mineral water to balance the body.  We offer 4 different body clays and we also hand blend 7 different facial clays.

Which clay colour is best for detoxing and why?

The green – cleansing mineral earth clay is mined from 60 metres deep, so making it stronger in its mineral content so providing stronger detoxing properties.  Detox treatments can be done by full body clay wraps, or using our Steamy Wonder with clay wrap, or even our Stream-lining Body Contour Inch Loss Wrapping.

What do you recommend to treat pigmentation naturally?

We use three active ingredients: Urva Ursi (Bearberry), Licorice and Thyme extract which together work as a tyrosinase inhibitor (inhibiting the melanin production in the skin), anti-aging and brings about skin vitality.  EarthSentials believes in custom formulating for each individual client – so these three ingredients can be added to our Sun Protection Cream, and moisturisers.  We also recommend a salon program using the Papaya Enzymatica and Free Radical Repair Ampoule on weekly basis for 6 weeks.

Why don’t you use Vitamin C in products?

Where Vitamin C does have some benefit, it also should be explained that it has its place in cosmetics and should only be used in a few for specific results.  Vitamin C is used for anti-ageing but in the past has had a number of negatives against it – firstly the fact that it was unstable and didn’t last very long and secondly for Vitamin C to be effective in skin care it had to be in a formulation of 10% or over and at a pH of 3.5 or less.  This would make it highly acidic on the skin and as EarthSentials believes in keeping the skins integrity, not using ‘work your skin to death’ procedure, but rather to work with the skin to make it function to its most effectiveness, the Vitamin C that has been available would compromise our position. We do not want the skin to be in the acid state, and particularly clients wanting to use Vitamin C for ageing, would have dry or sensitive skin being of that age bracket, and acid on this skin type would not be good.

How long is EarthSentials products shelf life?

EarthSentials creams, moisturisers, lotions, cleansers etc all have a minimum 2 year shelf life – we preserve our products naturally so they do not need to be kept in the fridge. Our preservative we use is also an antioxidant.

Our clay’s shelf life is indefinite as it is in its raw form and does not have any water or other ingredients added at this stage.

What is the best products to use for exfoliation of the body?

EarthSentials offers two different techniques and multiply different aroma’s in our products for you to create something truly beautiful in your salon or spa treatment.  For those doing a weekly home exfoliation these products are also available in retails sizes.

  • “Wet” exfoliation with our Body Polishing Gel Wash (aroma of lime and grapefruit), is used with our Body Earth Peelant (fine volcanic pumice) and sea salt.  Prepare the skin using hot towel compresses, and then taking a little Body Polishing Gel wash and Body Earth Peelant into a glo glove (only one is needed so you have one hand touch and one exfoliation glo touch), create a natural ‘foam in the glove by rubbing your hands together with a little water, and then removing the hot towel, use alternative hands moving up the leg in rhythm to get rid of the dead skin build up. Remove with warm towel compress, and repeat on next area.  All these products are in the Professional Body Dispensary or can be purchased separately.
  • Salt Glo Exfoliation – this technique involves taking a little of our aroma fragranced salt in your hand with some of our water soluble oil (with the same aroma), and working up the body exfoliate the dead skin build up.  Use a dry body brush technique to rid the skin of salts or use a warm towel compress.

(All these techniques we offer in our training workshops.  For more information either call or email us (see contact details).

How do you use the Deep pore desincrustation pack to treat acne skin?

This is a two pack product that helps to dislodge deep sebum build up and help to balance the pH of the skin.

Take a little of the powder (1 tsp) with the DPD activator (which is a fantastic formula of Olive extract, sea mineral, Kombucha, guava extract, and other ingredients. It will fizz slightly.  Add a little of your Toner or a little warm water to help it spread more and then apply it to the skin with a wet brush. It is best done after the Papaya Enzymatica (as this will remove the first layer of dead skin build up) and then the DPD activator and DPD powder can work on dislodging the sebum in the pores etc.  Leave for about 5 minutes and remove well with water. You can use it under a facial steam in a salon if need be.  Work on the skin in circular motions very gently.  Do not over abrade the skin.

How do you use Papaya Enzymatica as an enzyme facial exfoliant?

Our Papaya Enzymatica is at 100% strength so you only need about ¼ tsp with about 2 tsp of warm water and mix, allowing the actives to infuse into the water phase – much like brewing tea.  Using the water phase (with the actives infused into it), apply the liquid onto the skin with a wet facial brush.  If there is a really thickened area you can use the granules packed on the area.  Remember the dryer areas will feel tingly and ‘busy’ on the skin, so let your client know this and to indicate to you where he/she is feeling most of the sensation. You can move the product on the skin as an exfoliant to take the edge of the sensation – although the exfoliation is happening due to the enzymes not the movement of the skin.  Leave for up to 7 minutes, and remove well with warm water.

I have a client with extreme skin sensitivities, what would you recommend?

This is a very big subject as the skin sensitivities could be genetic (intrinsic) or could be due to external factors (extrinsic).  The first thing to do is to ask questions to try and determine when, why and how there skin has got to this point.  Next know very confidently that EarthSentials products were created to help people with extreme sensitivities so you will be able to find a solution for them.  You need to determine the areas on the skin and using your Chinese Diagnostic chart give them feed back as to what you are noticing.  Using your advanced skin analysis techniques we teach, then assist the client in understanding what their first, second and third priority treatment must be which will involve salon treatments, home care program as well as possible lifestyle changes.

EarthSentials range for extreme sensitivity include our:

Natural Cleansing Milk – which has no aroma whatsoever

Rose Toner – to keep the skin hydrated throughout the day

Natural Moisturising essence formulated for sensitivity or our Intensive Moisture Repair to repair damaged skin.

We also use St Johns wort topically with a formula in for Rosacea and any redness.

Rosehip oil for scaring and damaged skin

Calming mask to soothe and rebuild the skin along with our Rehydrating Activator.

We do have other specialised salon products and other home care products like our Acne Spot cream etc that is a great soother on the skin.

How long has EarthSentials been on the market?

Does EarthSentials use certified organic ingredients?

When EarthSentials first entered the market there were very limited Certified Organic Ingredients available.  Tracey Hammond, the founding director or EarthSentials is always sourcing new ingredients and as more and more are coming available EarthSentials will continue to bring in new certified organic ingredient products.

EarthSentials main skin care range does use organic ingredients, but not all ingredients are certified organic – although they are natural and were created to help those with extreme sensitivities.

EarthSentials Rose Hip Oil is Certified organic.

EarthSentials prides itself in not eliminating core products from our range or changing them.  A common industry complaint is that companies often change formulas and the clients who have been using them say, ‘they don’t like it because it has changed.’ Tracey made a decision right from the beginning that the original formula’s were so positive and exquisite that there was no reason to change them – but if a new ingredient came on the market that needed to be in our range, that she would create a new product line or bring out the pure ingredient that could be added to each product on demand by the individual businesses when needed.

If you are interested in finding out about our upcoming Certified Organic ingredient products – please give our headoffice a call and speak directly to Tracey Hammond 0n +61 7 38866045
